From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party access locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
